Learner on the path of God

Catalysis with purpose.

I am Dr. Fatima Jalid, Assistant Professor (Grade I) in the Department of Chemical Engineering at National Institute of Technology Srinagar. My work uses modelling and molecular insight to ask how chemistry can serve a more sustainable future.

folio 02 / Systems under study

Four surfaces of one inquiry.

Reaction engineering

Microkinetic modelling

Translating molecular-scale energetics into reaction networks that explain activity, selectivity, and catalyst deactivation.

Catalyst design

Computational catalysis

Using first-principles insight and DFT-guided analysis to identify surfaces and alloys with promising catalytic behaviour.

Sustainable transformations

Biorenewable chemicals

Designing catalytic routes that turn renewable feedstocks into valuable fuels, chemicals, and intermediates.

Low-carbon chemistry

Carbon-aware pathways

Exploring reforming, alcohol dehydrogenation, and CO2-assisted pathways toward more responsible chemical production.

folio 03 / A considered practice

Working between molecular detail and a wider responsibility.

My research examines catalytic pathways from the surface upward: how individual reactions connect, how catalysts deactivate, and how alloy design can move a process toward better selectivity.

Alongside research, I care about teaching students to treat modelling as a way of thinking clearly: a tool for asking sharper questions, not merely producing answers.
